High school in Canada over the school break: Mini High School Experience places students in the real routine of a Canadian school for four weeks, in January 2027.

What is the Mini High School Experience?

Mini High School Experience is the four week program in which international students attend Fredericton Christian Academy (FCA) as regular students, going to the same classes and taking part in the same activities as their Canadian classmates.

FCA is a private Christian school in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, with more than 90% Canadian students. That changes the nature of the experience: participants are not placed in a class of international students, they join the school.

The 2027 edition begins in mid January, a period that coincides with the school break of many international students. Participants live a month of Canadian high school without missing coursework back home.

What does a student’s day at the school look like?

From Monday to Friday, classes run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. The host family takes the student to school in the morning and picks them up in the late afternoon, and that daily trip becomes one of the best opportunities to talk in English.

After classes, extracurricular and sports activities begin, open to program participants on the same terms as regular students.

Which subjects can students choose?

Each participant builds their own timetable with up to five subjects, chosen according to the year they are in at high school, plus ESL classes, English as a second language.

The availability of each subject depends on the school calendar and the participant’s school year.

How does homestay accommodation work?

Participants stay with host families selected, trained and supervised by the school itself, in a private room or a room shared with another international student.

The program includes three meals a day and daily transportation to and from the school. The host family is part of the school community, which brings the routine at home closer to the routine at school.

What happens during exam week for regular students?

While Canadian students write their exams, Mini High School Experience participants have a full week of activities and cultural outings prepared especially for the group.

It is the part of the program with the most exposure to the city and the region, and it takes place in the middle of the month.

Which outings and excursions are part of the program?

There are five half day outings and three full day excursions on Saturdays, all accompanied by the school team.

Excursions and outings may change according to weather conditions and local availability.

What is winter like in Fredericton?

January in New Brunswick is cold and snowy, and that is exactly what opens up the winter sports schedule. The school and the host families are set up for the season, and participants receive guidance on suitable clothing before departure.

Skiing, snowboarding and ice skating are among the planned activities, with a beginner level available.

Who can take part in the Mini High School Experience?

The program welcomes students who are currently in Grade 9 through to the final year of high school, or who have recently completed it.

An intermediate level of English is recommended, and ESL classes are part of the schedule for every participant. What is expected of applicants is a willingness to live the routine of a Canadian student.

What is included in the program?

How does enrolment work?

Enrolment is handled through the network of Fredericton Christian Academy (FCA) partner agencies in Latin America, which arranges deadlines, documentation and conditions directly with the family.

Entry requirements for Canada may vary according to the participant’s country of origin and should be checked with official immigration sources before flights are purchased.
